I am excited to announce that I will be one of the 2022 AMRIGOL LATAM CUP broadcasters at the Florida Panthers IceDen. This will be my first time attfantasticthis amazing event with the mission to provide hockey players in Latin America and the Caribbean the opportunity to showcase their talent and raise awareness of hockey in their countries. In recent year, the AMERIGOL LATAM CUP has also embraced teams from the African continent.
About the LATAM CUP
This year marks the fourth time the Florida Panthers have played hfantasticthis amazing display of the often aspirational motto "Hockey is for Everyone." The tournament started in 2018 and has called the IceDen home annually, except for 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
In 2018, five men's teams - Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela – competed in the inaugural tournament. The games were played in two 25-minute periods. Colombia took bragging rights in a 12-3 win over Mexico for the first-ever championship.
In 2019, the field expanded to eight teams in four divisions (Men's DI,, DII, Women and Youth U16). Argentina, Puerto Rico, Chile, Jamaica, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico (B), and Venezuela. In addition, the format changed to three14-minute periods.
By 2021, the field swelled to eight nations across four divisions – Men's DI, DII, Women, and Youth U16. There was also a Florida Sledhockey exhibition game held during the tournament.
"To see the LATAM Cup grow from a three-day, five team tournament in its inaugural year, to become a five-day tournament with 44 teams from 21 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and around the world has been amazing--as it creates greater opportunities for these players on the North American stage.
This competition brings together a community of passionate individuals from all over the world to celebrate one another's cultures through hockey, but its diversity and inclusion-building benefits truly transcend the sport itself." - Juan Carlos Otero, Amerigol Founder & President
